People who work in a dentist office?

I read a question just before where someone said they had a phobia of dentists yet they were a dental hygienist. Well, I'm 18 and I also have a phobia of dentists, so much so that it is out of control :(. So I was wondering, if I went and worked as a dental receptionist, will it conquer my phobia, or make it even worse? (Please answer honestly). And - BQs: Are you obligated to go to the dentist you work at or can you just go to a different one? Does your boss etc have to know which dentist you go to or not? Thanks :)
